April 2021

Projects, work, Easter, more projects, work, and trying to plan some fun. We started our downstairs bathroom remodel in March and in April (5 weeks later) it was finally finished. It looks great, but was a pain to have construction ongoing that long, and we will have to endure that for the upstairs bathroom as well sometime this year.

Fiora came down and stayed for Easter. She and Sav had fun coloring eggs while I listened to conference, Wes did one too. They always get an Easter basket I hide somewhere in the house. We held our annual traditional Barrett Family Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday and it was a fun potluck and hunt. The weather was unusually warm that day so we even were able to eat outside. We had just pulled out the cement so there was a square of rocky dirt in our yard.

So we got the cement out of the backyard, capitalizing on our neighbor's demolishing equipment when they were getting their yard demolished to make way for a pickle ball court. We do not have plans for a court, but deliberated on whether to overhaul the entire yard for somewhere in the vicinity of 50,000 dollars or just put in a garden in that spot for now and get a new fence. We opted for the latter, and Jared very supportively got me some topsoil, fertilized soil, and manure so I could make a 16 food square spot to plant some vegetables. It has been and will continue to be a lot of work, but now I can say I've used my nutrition knowledge and made my own veggies, as I have wanted to for many years now. We will see how it goes, I just got the seeds in yesterday and April was particularly cold.

Weston made student body council as a technician for his senior year of high school at PG. The current student body taped a big poster to our door to congratulate him. I loved it and kept it up for a week. He will make a great addition to SC, and has already made sacrifices to commit to this. He has a camp on his birthday this summer for SC and I hope they have a fun fun day!

Weston asked his friend Lily to prom and his group decided to go to a former-student-sponsored prom on April 17 instead of the PG one on May 1st, and it was a lot of planning, a lot of work, and the dance was awful, but he and his friends made the most of it. Jared and I encouraged him to spend a little extra trying the school sponsored dance as well, so he decided to go to the PG one in a stag group which was way less stress and way more fun. Lesson learned. He looked very handsome both times.

We've semi adopted my cousin Rachelle's son Riley Wilkinson who is here from Texas attending BYU. He comes over for Sunday dinner and when he broke his arm and had to have a plate screwed into his wrist, I picked him up after surgery and he stayed at my house for a night. Savanna and him have gotten to be good friends and we love having him over. When his girlfriend broke up with him we had a dinner game night with him and then took him tot he cabin for Sunday. We also got to have him stay with us 4 days while he was in between housing contracts. So happy he feels comfortable to come stay with us! We found out he has some mad braiding skills, he did Sav's hair at the cabin. Also he helped us in the yard which was awesome.

Fiora got a job at a skin care salon up in Layton, about 25 minute drive from where she is staying in Ogden. She loves the work, is learning many things, and is trying to get along with co-workers and make new friends. She comes down to visit every week or so, and I was able to go up and have lunch with her on my day off and be a model for a body wrap. It was awesome!

Savanna visits us often and we love it. She got her stimulus check and was able to buy a few needed items for herself. Including a book shelf that she had Weston build for her, he is great at that sort of thing and seems to enjoy it. Sav had a disappointing dating experience again this month and is taking a break from online dating apps, so if you know anyone you want to set her up with let us know! I had my regular nail appointment with Sav and got real dried and pressed flowers encapsulated in gel. I love them even after three weeks grow out.

We snuck in a visit to Wendy Snow and her family one Saturday. Schauers gatherings are few and far between nowadays so it was nice to catch up with them and their kids, and granddaughter. Savanna was able to foot zone Sandy who is getting big with child.

We have been working so hard this past two months. I got my COVID shot and got sick for an entire day after. I completed my behavior contract eliminating some foods that have snuck their way into my diet, and earned some new running shoes, and it was tough work. Somewhere in there Jared and I got a date out to dinner at a new Asian restaurant. Jared is busy with real estate, city council meetings, YM activities, horse back riding with his buddies, and working in the yard. We decided we needed a family vacation and convinced the kids to all take work off the week of June 7 so we can rent an RV and explore WA and OR. Hope we make some good memories on that adventure! Harder when the kids are adults and need their own space, and have their own ideas of what fun is, but I'm praying the Lord will bless us and it will be a much needed fun break.
