August 2025

August was an interesting month! Three words: moves, guests, losses. We had McKay, Savanna and Juliet living with us from July 26 to August 9 (guests) and then they moved into their rental home in Orem (loss, I miss my baby girl). Lots of cleaning, moving and watching the baby that first week in August.
They were positioned in their home just in time for Weston to move back from Missouri (gain) August 10 and use the room they were staying in. We enjoyed a few days with him that week and weekend, and took him on a 4-wheeler club jeep ride. Then he went directly back to Logan the next Monday to start his peer tutor job (loss), and his apartment wasn't quite ready so thankfully a friend our our neighbor who lives by campus let him stay at her house for 3 days (many moves for Weston).
Our neighbor Lu Henriksen age 86 died so Jared and I delayed our day trip to Logan to check on Weston and see his new place to attend her funeral. It is strange to not have Lu in the house across from ours, she has been there since we moved there 14 years ago. We had a lovely time visiting Weston, going to the temple, and fishing the Logan river and skipping rocks. We found two dimes at the restaurant we went to and I felt like angels will be watching over Weston.
I got to go to lunch with my daughters and love having a chance to visit with Fiora. I had two other lunch dates for birthdays--Tracy Ware at Happy Sumo and Shawna Schauers at Bowls superfood. I also got a lunch on the company for regional training at Ednas. Super fun to eat out with my friends/family.
I managed to sneak over to BYU bookstore during Education week--miraculously found a parking spot--to visit Jesse and Kelsy doing the Lightweave promotional booth. I bought a few pictures and loved seeing them in action with their beautiful art.
Moves for Fiora--she stored some things in our garage while she transitioned from her old apartment in Provo to moving in with her boyfriend David in Vineyard, then both of them moved to a new apartment in American Fork. I was able to help her clean David's old apartment one afternoon which was fun to be with her.
Savanna and McKay are graciously taking Sky our dog at their place now, we dropped him off August 22, Lillian's death day, which seemed significant, just before all the guests arrived. It is strange not having Sky in the house, he was a great running partner and door greeter and had a nice presence in our home. With Weston gone it's not great for us to have a dog--Jared and I are letting him go because we are never home and he is alone in the house most of the time. He will be much happier with Sav and Juliet around and McKay who plays with him, and takes a load of my plate. A gain and a loss.
We had the Wilkinson's come stay with us August 24th through the 29th--Jayson Rachelle and all five of the quints were here the first night then Kassidy and Kaydence moved into their dorm at BYU so it was only 5 for a while. I was able to spend a couple evenings with them and we had some nice dinner and games, but otherwise I had to work while they were here which was a bummer for me.
My sister Heidi and her family came to stay with us August 28 through 31st so there was a day of overlap when we had 12 people staying with us! It was quite the adventure, I think I got three hours of sleep that night lol. The Carpenters always bring fun. We celebrated Travis 16th birthday goin out for Thai food, then had a big Barrett Family party on Sunday. Even church is funner with them! We had a fun time with all our guests and were thankful we could serve them and spend some time with those we love.
And then Fiora's new place allows for a cat so she came and got her cat Pepper too! Change, gain, change, loss...August was a uniquely busy month! "Do not fear death, fear the unlived life." We lived this month.
