March 2016

Improve the shining moments, don't let them pass you by. That is the theme for March 2016. We didn't let a moment pass us by this month, we took advantage of every minute. The girls needed to attend a play for school so I took them to one I hadn't seen yet but always wanted to, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat." It was a great performance and we loved it.
Elder Neal Anderson of the 12 came to our stake to talk to the youth. Savanna was very determined and went to shake his hand after. It was part of missionary month in our Stake, the girls were called to pretend missions for a month and learned how to give a lesson and teach it to a family among other activities. Sav was called to Texas and Fiora was called to Brazil. They will make great missionaries some day. We enjoyed hosting some other sisters at our home for some Brazilian food and a lesson.

Kynsie Lark Barrett returned from serving her real honorable mission in North Dakota and Minnesota this month. We all went to the airport to welcome her home! Its nice to have her back safe and sound. We all went to Justin and Kali's after for a dinner and catch up. Kynsie gave a lovely talk that very Sunday, she has learned a lot and increased in wisdom and love.

Karli Sue's birthday was March 7th, she invited me to join her at Cafe Rio for lunch. That was a nice sister time to celebrate Karli. My girls both had choir concerts this month so I've included a couple pictures of them singing. I love a good choir concert. Play "Where's Waldo" to see if you can find the girls faces in these pictures. Also Weston got glasses this month, he was squinting and unable to read things outside so we checked him out at the eye doctor and he's slightly near sighted. He looks pretty handsome despite his braces and glasses and being in that 11 year old awkward stage.

The chickens are still alive and thriving. They were in the brooder in the laundry room until about 6 1/2 weeks old, they got big fast and kept trying to perch on the cardboard, crowded conditions aren't good for chickens so as soon as I thought they'd be ok we put them in the coop. It was strange to not have them in the house, I felt like I'd thrown them into the dark cold world, I checked on them several times that first day. I was so worried about them in the cold, but they have done great, Jared made them a nice coop. I barely check on them once a day now. Jared is building a run, slowly but surely, they aren't allowed out of the coop until the run is done.

Weston blew us away at the State Gym meet March 12th in Layton Utah. During this competition season he was averaging about a 69 overall points at his meets, and he broke 70 a couple times (spoiler alert one time which was at Regionals Apr 2nd), but the angels were with him or he was extra on his game at the state meet because he scored 74.6 overall points! He nailed his routines and did the very best he has ever done, and I think even surprised his coaches. Weston got first place in his division and won a bouquet of flowers and a gift card, and of course, qualified for regionals. It was a wonderful and miraculous event to witness. We took the boys to celebrate at red robin after. Weston has really been getting along with his gym mate Zach Connelly, they took some selfies. Here is the link to the 6 minute video of the state meet if you'd like to view it.

We celebrated Easter this month. Lots of family, in fact every member of the Barrett family was at our house at one point or another Saturday before Easter. Coloring eggs and eating clam chowder and searching for eggs and Christ-centered gifts Grandma Barrett is so thoughtful to bring for her children and grandchildren. I didn't have the energy to round them all up for a family picture, which I wish I would have since we were all together for the first time in years, but we did gather for a gender reveal party for Heidi and Krystal's unborns. They are both having girls! I gave them both backyard flock eggs from my neighbor's chickens for their baby's brain development. The family gets bigger and better every year.

We had our own little Easter celebration Sunday. Fiora wanted to do a more traditional egg hunt so she bought some treats with her own money and filled eggs and hid them around for Weston and Savanna. I thought that was so sweet of her, I did a treasure hunt for her to find the egg she bought for herself. We ended the day by having a great Easter feast at the Snow's with all the Schauers who could attend, loved laughing and spending time with them, it was a great family day. My friend Valerie Hall brought me a spray of heather flowers just because, I had never really seen heather up close. They are really pretty pink and purple bell shaped brush flowers. Loved that gift! Was March not a blessed month? I'm very grateful for each shining moment.
