September 20, 2024 Day 1

Weston was released from his mission September 17th but we were not able to make it down there until Sep 20th, so he had a few days to be in a trio and wait around for us to get there. He was very patient. Savanna and Mckay came to stay at our house for two weeks and take care of the dog and the farm animals while we were gone. Jared and I traveled over 20 hours/three flights to get down to Porto Alegre but thankfully safely and with all our luggage in tact and successfully rented a car in our broken portugues. The Lord was with us, when we didn't know what to do or where to go a helpful person was always there to get us where we needed to go. It was amazing for me to hear and put into practice all my Portuguese language learning of the past two years.

We arrived at the mission home about 4:00 pm on that Friday afternoon, and words can't describe how joyful it was to be reunited with Weston again. I was overwhelmed with joy much more than my pain of losing him. He seemed taller and filled out, and gave me the biggest hug of my life! I was on a natural high for the rest of the day and didn't even notice my travel weariness. We greeted his mission president and her wife and spoke to the elders with him in Portuguese and went to a Gaucho festival that evening. We tasted Chimarrao, herbal tea they all drink there, danced, and had our first churrasco. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, we were fed everywhere we went. We had a lovely hotel in Porto Alegre that evening and Weston was released there that evening over Zoom with President Rutter. Everyone had wonderful things to say about Weston and we were so thankful he was so loved, appreciated, and take care of. He left a boy and is returning a man, defintely with honor!
