February 2017

Words that describe February: fun, cold, gym meets, stress, travel, service, and work. But we made it through and have lots to be grateful for.

I stayed with Grandma Rappleye the first weekend in February while my parents and littlest siblings went to Lake Havasu. Pretty uneventful with Grandma, she just eats and sleeps and reads her paper, but Kollin had some health issues that kept us all up one night so that made it exciting. I taught a class on addiction to educators and administrators at a huge conference Feb 4th which ended up being really fun for me, teaching adults is more rewarding than teaching youth...they were actually inspired and participated and I loved it. After lots of people requested the slides, and two administrators there asked for me to please teach the same class in future education conferences this summer which I am looking forward to. I think my dad would be proud. When I came home the house was quiet but my dog was happy to see me.

At my cousin Becky Terry now Holloway's wedding reception grandma was flanked by two of her cousins whose names I've already forgotten. She was smiling non stop, you could tell she remembered them and though she couldn't say much she was so happy they were with her. My mom is doing such an amazing job as Grandma's caretaker, she is my hero right now with all the excitement she is dealing with in her "full house" this month. She somehow makes time to do music and visit with me once in a while despite all the distractions. Love her.

The second weekend I took Weston by myself to Aliso Viejo California for another gym meet. I learned a lot and didn't make all the best decisions on things like which airport to fly in and not at rush our and I didn't make the best hotel choice, but we were safe and made it to the meet without any hiccups. The first night we found an Italian cafe and I had a great beet salad, and we stayed in the Laguna Beach Inn on the coast so I could run along the beach in the morning and watch the sunrise. Weston didn't quite hit his routines at this meet, except floor he nailed it and got 3rd place, but he and his two top team mates were all three crying in frustration after, but their team still managed to get 3rd place. I was very social and stuck to the gym moms like glue so Wes could hang out, we went to the Lego Batman movie and to chick fila and to a different team mate's hotel to swim. It wiped me out but I think Weston had fun.

February 13th Fiora turned 14. She had a birth-weekend celebration, Jared took her and her friends to dinner Friday evening, Saturday shopping with her friend at the mall, Sunday we had dinner with the Barretts with gifts, songs, and treats, and Monday her actual birthday she got her presents with birthday breakfast, smoothies for her and her friends at lunch, dinner at Cafe Rio and shopping spree at Target after. I think she felt loved. We do love our sweet, funny, happy, loving flower Fiora.

My uncle Lloyd and Aunt Kathy were in town and joined us for the birthday dinner fun. I think it was a little chaotic for them but they are good sports.

Went to visit my mom and give her a valentine, and Grandma Rappleye had been given a valentine by Grandpa Rappleye who inspired my mom to buy her beautiful pink roses and chocolates. Rachel got a job at kneaders and was on her way out the door with her hair net on, lol. That was a sweet visit with my mom, and in between our chatter Kollin managed to have three seizures, it was sad but kind of comical how mom coped with the stress by just staying upbeat and talking and making lunch with me while we waited it out. So much fun at the Barrett home!
Jared bought me some dark pink roses this year, it was the first time he has given me flowers on valentines day and I really appreciated it. It kept me going during a very hard week.

on the road again

The third weekend Jared and I and Weston packed up and went down to Las Vegas for another gym meet. This is the big Black Jack meet that many boys in the region attend, there were over 30 boys in his division, so it was a tough competition. He did a little better at this one, though still didn't meet his goal of over 70 points overall. He had his best pommel routine at this meet, placed 8th against so many. We celebrated at In and Out Burger after and got to take one of his team mates Kasen Taylor home with us and those two were so quiet the whole way home.

All american gymnastics still placed 3rd as a team, collectively they get lots of points!

Weston's going through a phase where he can't just smile normal
The kids still managed to have a sleep over with cousins presidents day weekend despite all the gym meet traveling. We took the boys to maria bonitas and to get a hair cut that day while school was out. The fourth weekend in February Jared took Weston and Grandpa Neil to ANOTHER gym meet in Colorado Springs. The Colorado Open is usually a big meet in this region but this year there happened to be another one in Houston that drew away lots of the competitors, so Weston had less to compete against and did fairly well in his division. He got over 70 this meet and I wish I could have seen it, but the boys enjoyed their "mancation." I got to go to a play with Fiora while they were gone at the Hale Center Theater and enjoyed doing a puzzle with only a few interruptions from my girls wanting to go here and there.

Grandpa Neil, Jared, and Weston enjoyed swimming and eating at the Drury inn, bowling, basket ball game, walking around Garden of the Gods, and a tour of the olympic training center. Grandpa was very thankful and had a great time. Whew that's a lot of traveling in one month!
