January 2018

I almost decided to stop posting on this blog this year, just seemed like a facebook post was sufficient to share our family news now and then. But my sister Karli Sue reminded me that this is how we keep a record of our family history so I am resolving to keep doing at least once a month posts for now.

Gym meet season is upon us! Weston is a level 9 this year, doing cool stuff and always working hard. We had 3 meets in Jan: Gym World Meet, Weston went with the Connelly's to the SCEGA meet in San Diego, and the All American Invitational here is Lindon. Weston struggled at the CA meet but did very well at AAG, scored 72.9 overall points and took first in his division. Here is the link if you want to watch his awesome meet: https://youtu.be/uK-21Wha9LQ

Savanna was in the school play "Cinderella" as part of the ensemble and did a marvelous job! It was her first stage performance and she loved it. We got quite a few family members there to see her perform and increased the revenues substantially. Thanks family!
We found out a couple weeks later that Savanna auditioned for and was given the lead role of Mary Poppins in the Cedar Hills community play coming up in April. We were so happy for her, be on the lookout for information on that play you won't want to miss it--April 13, 14 an 16th!!!

Jared took me on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera for a week in January. He went with the Utah Apartment Association and did some CE classes and I just relaxed. It was much needed medicine for me to have some rest and sun, and recuperate from 2017 which was a tough year for me. The kids did great at home while we were gone taking care of the house, dog, and each other.

Jared took lots more pictures of our cruise than this which I will add to a following post.
I came home rejuvenated and determined to cook healthful meals again. I made the kids a 3 course meal the Sunday we got back. They loved it.

I earned my LCSW on January 4th. A huge milestone for me for which I'm grateful to have lived to see the day. Jared and I went to lunch at Carrabbas to celebrate. It took so long sometimes I thought it would never actually happen. Jared said this about it which I thought was very nice:
I HAVE TO brag on my wife. Recently she completed a goal that she has been working towards on an almost daily basis for just under a decade. She finally completed the requirements to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). This included taking several prerequisite courses to be able to apply to the Masters of Social Work program at Brigham Young University, getting accepted to the program, completing the program which was 18 months without a break and included an internship at the state penitentiary working with female inmates and another internship with LDS Family Services, graduating with flying colors (in 2011), and working the last 7 years part-time as a certified social worker in a private practice to accumulate the necessary 4,000 hours to get her LCSW from the State. All of this while magnificently fulfilling her commitments to her children, to me, and the many other wonderful things in which this sweet woman is involved. She is such a tremendous example of perseverance and achievement. Congratulations Heather Schauers!! I am so PROUD of you!

President Monson passed away and we all had moments of fond memories of him at his passing. Savanna wrote her favorite quote of his on her arm: "Death is not the end, it is putting out the candle because the dawn has come." My favorite quote is "Dare to be a Mormon, dare to stand alone, dare to have a purpose firm, dare to make it known." We love you Thomas S Monson! Thank you for your service.

We also had the great opportunity to see Bailey Schauers in the ensemble of her play "Lion King Jr." Tons of fun. Westoni got to spend the night at Trevan and Travis' which he always enjoys while Lucy came here to sleep over. We love cousins. In other Jan news, Fiora got really sick with pneumonia which set her back a week, but she recovered, and in Jan signed up for and is involved in a hip hop dance class with her friend Chris Stone. Track season started for Fiora also so she is running more. I don't know how I went the whole month without taking a picture of Fiora, I love her I promise. Fiora's birthday is in Feb so there will be lots of pictures of her next month I promise.
