Mothers day & Savanna's birthday

For mother's day I bought myself some kitchen supplies, Savanna wrapped them individually, and created a treasure hunt around the house for me to find each one.

Weston and Jared made an effort and bought me two exercise shirts as well. Jared said the clothes I wore to work out in didn't serve his eyes enough for his liking.

Weston made a bowl out of magazine and glue and wrote me some very nice tributes for me. He is a sweetie.

Savanna and Weston making healthy fudge for Grandma Barrett for her mother's day present.

Kelsy made all the mothers in the family strawberry roses, they were darling!

We had a fun time having dinner at the Barretts on Mother's day, I don't have a picture of my dear mother though. :(

Justin said this was his best Pedro smile.

Wendy Heim graciously accompanied me to Salt Lake City to see "Fed Up" which was awesome and I am sad its a limited release because everyone needs to see it. It was a fun day.

Savanna's birthday breakfast at Kneaders, her choice.

Jared not so sure about the cost of this outing.

Savanna is 13 now, it seems like she has been a teenager for a while, but maybe preteen is what I was expecting teens to be like.  More good times ahead I'm sure!  We love you Savanna.

I let her buy what she wanted, still not sure if that was a service or disservice, but she was happy.

Savanna wanted a fingernail polish rack for her nail art studio, I helped her organize and clean it all up.

Savanna had a party with over 20 jr high age kids and it was a lot of screaming and mess making, but again she was happy.

Those balloons were given to Sav from a 11 year old girl Anna Passmore in our ward who shares a birthday with Savanna, so nice!

Savanna is our ray of sunshine, no matter how mad or sad she gets she bounces back fast to her "I love life" default character quickly. She is helpful and funny and beautiful.  We are so blessed to have her in our family.

School is wrapping up

End of school means lots of projects due!!  Savanna had a family project where she made us all spend 1 1/2 hours together as a family on a weeknight, we played games and tried hard not to have contention, and I was glad she had us spend some time together.  Fiora had her wax museum, she dressed up like Marie Curie and made an x-ray prop and a poster, and memorized a minute and 13 second monologue about Marie. As I helped her I learned a lot about Marie Curie! She was very adorable presenting her museum historical figure at the school. Weston had a report about Utah birds, and he kept procrastinating the 3-D project and report and making me help him with it at the last minute. Yes I was rescuing him quite a bit on this one. Together I think we came up with a nice report and project, and his teacher gave him 100%.  It was very interesting for me to learn about Utah birds, but I know very well he wouldn't have gotten that high of score without my help. Where do you strike a balance between being supportive and helpful but not rescuing?

I am continuing my 21 day sugar detox, I'm on day 18!  I'm a little over saturated with meats and oils, but I'm doing good with my energy level and digestive response. I've tried more different foods the past 3 weeks than I have my whole life. I roasted a whole chicken and ate the heart, made broth out of the bones, made a great mexican soup--I even made calves foot jelly broth for a soup base! It has been educational and a learning experience, and a lot of work.  I have a lot of respect for women of the olden days who had to do everything from scratch.  I'm grateful I've had a small client case load this month so I have time to cook and clean. Yesterday I made lemon thyme salmon over cabbage, the presentation was so nice I took a picture. Weston changed it into a bearded monster.

Savanna continues to watch "Cute Girls Hairstyles" and "Cute Nail Polish Designs" on youtube and creates her hair and nail art. She begs me for more nail supplies for her birthday, and really wants makeup and fake eyelashes too. She is an expressive girly girl! I wouldn't be surprised if she went to beauty school instead of college.
