Grandpa Neil's Passing
J Neil Schauers passed away June 7th 2020 and his graveside service was that Friday June 12th. Neil didn't want a funeral, and COVID restrictions made that difficult anyway, so we had a private family viewing and a graveside service to mourn his passing. We felt blessed that Gabe Carpenter was able to prepare Neil's body and provide the services, and that Heidi was able to come support him and be with us. Grandpa Neil was buried in a simple pine box and his children kept the service sweet and simple, only immediate family and a few others like my parents got to be there. Jared gave a beautiful grave dedication prayer, and he prepared a horseman (our neighbor Nate Jensen) to shoot a gun from the top of the hill on a horse and ride away while Justin was reading his poem, which I thought was a nice tribute. Jared asked me and Savanna and Shawna and Bailey to sing a musical number, and somehow it didn't get communicated to the sibling group that was happening, but Chad felt impressed to include "Come Thou Fount" in the program as the closing song and we assumed that was our cue since that was the very song we prepared, so it worked out. We had a nice lunch at a park in Lindon afterwards and enjoyed some time with Jared's family. They hired a professional photographer who captured some beautiful moments. We are glad he is reunited with Grandma Sandy. Until we meet again Grandpa Neil!
