Derby and Recital

The French's Malt Shop

We have some great neighbors Bob and Nan French who we visited last week. Weston wanted to show Brother French his Pine Wood Derby car because Bob helped him cut it at his wood shop.  The French's also have a malt shop and served everyone up, it was very fun.
I had no idea how big the little Derby car race was in scouts, this being my only's son's first year in scouts, people were very serious about it.  There was a track that timed each car by the millisecond, and everyone's car had to be weighed in and people were oiling their axels and pounding in graphite.  I thought Weston's car looked great, he chose the design himself, and I only completely helped paint the white lines, he did most of the rest himself. Weston's car won all three runs of his heat, but overall placed 5th, because there were some serious competitors at this thing!  Still he had fun. He won the "Best Scout Spirit" because of the colors.

Savanna's violin recital

Savanna played "The Two Grenadiers" for her violin recital this fall.  She has been practicing for 2 months and was super good at that song, I had a lot of fun practicing with her as her accompanist. Unfortunately she forgot to tighten her bow for the actual performance and didn't play it AS well as usual, but it was still good.  She is really improving at violin, this year in orchestra she feels right comfortable and is playing the songs well.
