Karli's Book

I made this book for my sister on a mission and wanted to have it in my blog-family-history. I had a lot of fun making it and Karli loved it! All the pictures are either postcards she has sent me or pictures from the mission field.

QUEST TO THE LAND OF HeirZONA
By Heather Schauers
(Base on true events)

Once upon a time, there was a fair maiden named Karlisu. She was the most honest, helpful, insipiring, and kind maiden in all the land of Utahna. Karlisu was beloved by all who knew her.
One day, Karlisu was walking through the stout forest of Southfork on Mount Timpanogo, when she happened upon a cactus.  “What is a cactus doing in the land of Utahna?” Karlisu wondered.
Suddenly the Cactus spoke to her. “Howdy fair maiden!” Karlisu yelped in fright and hid behind a safe fir tree.  The Cactus chuckled.  “Don’t you be ‘fraid now, I know who you are Karlisu, and I’ve traveled all the way from the land of HeirZona to ask you to complete a quest!”

“Quest?” Karlis repeated meekly.  She approached the cactus.  “What kind of a quest?”
“I reckon you’ve heard of these quests before, it’s a quest to the hot and firey land of HeirZona to save their people from the invisible demon who blinds their eyes and dulls their hearin’, and only the most honest, most kind, and most inspiring gals in the world are able to do it.”

“How will I ever be able to save anyone from the invisible demon?” asked Karlisu doubtingly.  “I’m just a simple maiden from the land of Utahna, and I have a rare phobia of speaking my mind!”
“Now don’t you worry darlin’! The great God of Heaven will help you save the people of HeirZona. And He will give you a companion to help you on your quest!”  Karlisu clasped her hands. “If God will help me then I will do it!”
“And remember,” said the Cactus, “having courage is being scared to death, but saddlin’ up anyways!”  And then he vanished!

Karlisu fled down the mountain to tell her family! She had a rather large (and somewhat odd) family that she loved more than anything.  “Oh Karlisu!” her family said. “We are so proud of you for accepting your quest, we will miss you but we know you can do it!!!” Little Trav even did a victory dance for Karlisu.

Fair maiden Karlisu saddled up and moved to a town called Toosahn, sad to leave her family, but excited for what lay ahead. Just like the Cactus promised, she was given a companion, a fair maiden of royal descent--Sister King! Sister King helped Karlisu learn how to survive her quest. She studied and worked hard, and Karlisu thought, “this isn’t so bad!” She even broke free of her phobia and spoke her mind!

But difficulty lay ahead for Karlisu.  Sadly, Sister King had to bid farewell to Karlisu and journey elsewhere in the land of HeirZona.  Karlisu found herself in the company of someone very different from herself…fair maiden Sister Reid.  This new companion was a wonderful person, but she missed Sister King so much she could barely move on. “Oh how will I ever complete my quest now!” languished Karlisu.
Thankfully, Karlisu and Sister Reid met many people who they were able to save from the invisible demon.  This boosted Karlisu’s spirits, “God is helping me complete my quest and help the people in the land of HeirZona!” Karlisu sent home letters to her family entitled MIRACLES and PEACE, BE STILL, and shared her testimony with all she could. Not even the burning sun could scorch her joy.
Then, one fateful day, Karlisu was carried away to another part of the land, and the people in this part of Toosahn spelled it differently—TUCSON—and they had different ways, and did not welcome quest-goers as did the people in her first land. Karlisu did not know what to do to help the people in this part of the land!
But God was with Karlisu, and sent a blessing to her at this crucial time in her quest…fair maiden Sister Blood!  Karlisu could face any challenge and conquer any foe with Sister Blood at her side!  She continued to work…
Progress was slow, but Karlisu never gave up.  Eventually she passed her 6 month mark!  She was 1/3 the way done with her quest!!  “I know a victory dance we can do!” she said to Sister Blood.  They danced and rejoiced together at surviving up to this milestone.

But more troubles lay ahead…Karlisu fell ill to the terrible desert fever, and the same week also fractured her wrist.  She no longer felt strong and fair, she felt weak and tired.  But she had learned that no matter what her challenge is, God will help her complete her quest.  “Just send me people who need to be saved, and I will keep going!” she prayed.  She applied Udderly Smooth Salve to her wounds, put on her orange skirt, and got back to work.

Karlisu’s determination paid off!  Soon she met noble Dawn, who was at risk of being bound by the invisible demon!  Karlisu and Sister Blood reached out to noble Dawn and she grasped their hands, and they were able to free Dawn from the blindness and deafness!  They wept for joy as they saw the light come into Dawn’s life!
Karlisu not only helped save people, she also sang and danced for the people of HeirZona, sharing her talents with all who she met on her quest.  Her adventures are not yet over, but she is stronger and more faithful, and willing to keep going.  And she is still the most honest, most helpful, most inspiring, most kind, and fairest maiden in all the land.
